For me Star Parker still exploited the welfare system after she stop "living of the county." In the seventies and eighties she directly exploited the system by living wild all the while having California tax payers to pay to support her. Once she ended those rants she used the welfare system to create a name for herself. By speaking out against it and making it a major component in her book she indirectly exploited the government system of welfare. I do not think she has the right to talk down on others who directly exploit the system when she too once directly exploited the government and now she indirectly exploit the system. She is a hypocrite.

ReplyDeleteWow! Your opinion and outlook on how Star Parker indirectly exploits the welfare system was very insightful. I agree that she too exploited the welfare system in the ways for which she spoke ill of those other women. However, to take it a step further I also agree that she exploited the welfare system for publicity and attention. In essence she is a hypocrite when one takes a deeper look. Great analysis.

I dont neccessarily think she is a hypocrite. She told her readers everything she could have possibly done back in her welfare days and clearly expresses that she was wrong after she recognized the error of her ways. I dont think she is pretending to be something she is not. She clearly is not that person anymore.

Very blunt and to the point!
ReplyDeleteWe should blog like this more often.
I dont believe that Star Parker is a hypocrite, but someone who saw the effects of welfare and how it effected her and used it to her advanatage.
Althoug your blog post is blunt, I would have to disagree. I don't t find her to be a hypocrite. She is basically giving her testimony. She is telling the women how she cheated and exploited the system and why she disagrees with welfare. She feels that it is a revoloving door, getting black women stuck in the system. Basically, I believe her cause is to prevent other women from making her mistakes. Jerrika Leslie
